Mural Project

The Borough of Allendale is initiating a comprehensive mural project to renovate and enhance an existing wall mural that has reached its 'use by date.' This project aims to revitalize a central downtown location by creating a new, modern mural that merges community, history, and art. The process will involve restoration of the existing wall, including cement rendering, priming, and detailing. A new painted mural will be applied in conjunction with built-in relief ceramic tile panels. A significant component of the project involves educational collaboration with three local schools, where students will contribute to the design and fabrication of the ceramic elements. A professional artist or artists will be responsible for the installation of the painted mural. The project timeline anticipates student involvement in ceramic fabrication by early Spring, kiln firings completed by the end of the school year, and wall installation commencing in the later part of the school year and potentially extending into the summer. The goal is to create a visually engaging and community-centric centerpiece for the downtown area, incorporating historical buildings, environmental spaces, and indigenous wildlife.
