A Message from the Mayor
As we proudly present the 2026 Florence Township Community Calendar, we reflect on another year filled with growth, connection, and shared
accomplishment. Florence Township continues to shine because of the people who call it home - our residents, volunteers, first responders, municipal employees,
business owners, and community partners. Each of you contributes in countless ways to the strong, welcoming, and vibrant community we are all so proud of.
This past year has brought many reasons to celebrate. Florence Township earned certification through the New Jersey Motion Picture and Television
Commission, opening the door to exciting filming opportunities right here in our community. Our own Curtis Thompson, a five-time national javelin champion,
once again brought national recognition home with his bronze medal at the World Championships in Tokyo - a remarkable achievement that continues to inspire
our youth and remind us of the heights that dedication can reach.
We also celebrated milestones close to our hearts, including the 115th anniversary of Saint Paul’s Baptist Church, a cornerstone of faith and service in our
community. Our Environmental Commission and Green Team made a visible impact through community cleanups and the creation of a new pollinator garden
in downtown Florence, thanks to support from a PSE&G grant. In addition, the township secured nearly one million dollars in grant funding to enhance our
parks and playgrounds - with two new playgrounds and a pickleball court scheduled to open in 2026.
As you enjoy the 2026 calendar, we invite you to explore the photographs that highlight the beauty and energy of our town, and to take note of the meetings,
events, and volunteer opportunities that keep our community connected. Whether you’re serving on a board, helping at an event, or simply cheering from the
sidelines, your participation is what makes Florence Township truly special.
Stay engaged and informed by visiting our township website, subscribing to updates, and following our social media pages, including those of the Florence
Township Police and Fire Departments. Sign up for emergency notifications through Nixle and Civic Ready 911 to stay aware and prepared.
Together, let’s continue to build a community rooted in respect, service, and pride - a place where every resident has the opportunity to make a difference.
Thank you for helping make Florence Township a wonderful place to live, work, and call home.
Warm regards,
H

St. Paul Baptist Church Celebrates 115 Years
St. Paul Baptist Church celebrated their 115th Anniversary in 2025. As few congregations are blessed to see such a day, they
reflect upon this moment as only possible because of God’s grace and faithfulness. “Through wars and peace, trials and triumphs,
struggles and victories, the Lord has held us, kept us, and established us as a beacon of His love in the Florence community”.

Training & Educating The Next Generation Of Firefighters
Our fire service runs drills and training sessions throughout the year to prepare for the unknown.
From rooftop safety to water rescues, our department has to plan for it all. These skills are passed along
to students and through the youth academy to prepare future members of the FTFD.

Curtis, Cara & Team USA
Florence Township celebrates our two Team USA athletes, Curtis Thompson and Cara Honeywell. Appropriately dubbed
“The Face of American Javelin”, Curtis Thompson has stormed through the competition season as the #1 Javelin thrower in
the United States, capping off the 2025 season with the Bronze Medal at the World Championships in Tokyo.
As a member of Team USA’s U20 Ball Hockey Team, Cara Honeywell led her squad to a 4th Place Finish in Poprad,
Slovakia scoring multiple goals in the ISBHF
World Junior Championships.

Police Work Can Be All Fun & Games
Enjoying the lighter moments is important for our officers. Taking part in celebrations, a day of fishing or sipping on
ice cold lemonade helps to make the hard days a little easier. We are thankful to our community for their continued uplifting support.

Florence Township
Annual Municipal Stormwater Information
As you may be aware, the State of New Jersey requires all municipalities to distribute certain information each year relating to the protection
of our water resources and stormwater management. This letter will give you a basic overview and information about what
Florence Township does to promote water protection and stormwater management in our community.
Florence Township has several ordinances that relate to stormwater management and protection of our water resources. Chapter 123 of the Township Code
regulates Pet Waste, Littering, Improper Disposal of Waste, Wildlife Feeding, Yard Waste, Refuse Containers, and Illicit Connections to storm collection systems.
Littering is unlawful on public and private lands and this includes scattering of handbills, circulars and other forms of advertisement. Trash, tires and other
items are regarded as waste and should be in enclosed containers with tight fitting lids that prevent spillage.
The feeding of unconfined wildlife such as Canadian Geese, migratory birds or other large numbers of wildlife is prohibited. Dense wildlife
numbers in the state have contributed to concerns of feces polluting streams, rivers, ponds and lakes. Even pet waste should be cleaned
up immediately from public and private lands and disposed of properly.
Illicit connections to stormwater collection systems are another concern that contributes to a multitude of pollutants of our waterways. Some types of illicit
connections include: sewer or gray water discharge, floor drains in contaminated areas, unprotected yard or roof drains, etc.
Chapter 91-75 and its corresponding sections of the Township Code address design standards for construction and public and private storm drain inlet retrofitting.
The state and the township require that new construction or land development applications meet a series of tests to verify that each new
project conforms to the latest best management practices for stormwater management and water protection.
In addition, storm drain inlets are required to be retrofitted any time a qualifying work takes place on or near the inlet. You may be familiar with inlet
retrofitting because you can see the smaller size of the openings on the grate and back portion of the inlet components. This smaller opening acts to prevent
trash and debris from entering the stormwater system and finding its way to our rivers, lake and streams.
For more information on the municipal code, stormwater management, and water protection measures, please visit the Florence Township Website at

Thank you for taking the time to read this information and your concern for the environment.
