Change of Occupancy Inspection Guidelines

This document outlines the guidelines for obtaining a Certificate of Smoke Alarm and Carbon Monoxide Alarm Compliance (CSACMAC) in Florham Park, NJ, which is required before any sale, rental, or change in tenancy for one- and two-family dwellings. The certificate is issued following an inspection by the local fire prevention bureau to ensure the property meets state fire code requirements, including functional and properly located smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. The certificate is valid for sixty days from the date of issue, and a new application and inspection are required if the change of occupancy does not occur within that period. Key regulations include specific placement requirements for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, with smoke alarms required on every level of the home and within 10 feet of sleeping areas.
