The History Behind The Old School Crest

This document provides a historical account of the Alloway Township School building and the preservation of its crest. It begins with the building's dedication in 1925, detailing a 1984 feasibility study and the community's successful efforts in 1992 to save the building from demolition and secure grants for its initial restoration. The building was re-dedicated in 1995 as a Senior Citizens/Municipal Office Complex after Phase I improvements, which included exterior work, new windows, and first-floor renovation. The text further describes the application for a second grant in 1996 for Phase II restoration of the second floor. It also chronicles the history of the school's crest, its removal in 2002, storage at Public Works, and its eventual reinstallation on a lighted foundation at the municipal offices in 2019. The report, accompanied by photographs, was compiled by Margaret M. Matthews, Alloway Township Historian/Photographer, as requested by Ben Thompson of the Alloway Township Steering Committee, and was completed on January 25, 2021.
