STREET TREES
Hammonton Municipal Code, Chapter 267, Article II, §267-7 through §267-18
This ordinance regulates the removal 
of trees in each of four categories:
Street Trees 
Town Trees 
Trees Developed on Lots 
Trees on undeveloped Lots
A permit is required to trim or remove trees trees located between the curb and sidewalk 
adjacent to a Municipal, County or State roadway.

Trees located on property owned by, or otherwise under the exclusive jurisdiction of, the Town of Hammonton.
Any lot assessed for an improvement (other than a billboard) is considered a developed lot. On such lots a permit is required to 
remove any tree larger than 20" in diameter measured 4½' above the ground, or any 10 or more trees larger than 7" in 
diameter measured 4½' above the ground, calculated on a per acre basis.
A permit is required to remove any tree. Applications must be delivered to the Environmental Commission 7 days 
prior to their next meeting which is held on the second Wednesday of every month.
The penalties for violations may include any combination of the following: Fines up to $1,000, a period of community 
service not to exceed 30 hours and the replacement of one-half the total caliper (diameter) of the trees improperly removed. 
Each day trees are removed and each tree having a diameter greater than 20" shall be considered a separate offense.
• Street trees and trees on developed lots: No fee is required unless the applicant requests the services of a Certified Tree Expert provided 
by the Town of Hammonton. 
• Minor development of one single family residence requiring the removal of fewer than 10 (ten) trees: $25. 
• Minor subdivision of two (2) or more single family residences or a minor site plan development requiring the removal of trees: $150 plus escrow fees. 
• Any major subdivision or major site plan requiring the removal of trees: $500 plus escrow fees.
APPLICANT CERTIFICATION
I certify that I am the owner of the referenced property and that the statements 
on both sides of this form are truthful to the best of my knowledge. My signature 
acknowledges that members of the Environmental Commission are permitted 
access to the property during daylight hours only in order to review the trees in 
question. Commissioners will have Town of Hammonton identification. 
I further certify that should I engage in the activities regulated by this ordinance 
prior to receiving a notice of approval from the Environmental Commission, I will 
be subject to the penalties outlined above.
