TREE PLANTING SERVICES – FALL 2026

The Borough of Hawthorne, located in Passaic County, New Jersey, is soliciting sealed bid proposals for comprehensive Fall 2026 Tree Planting Services. This project encompasses all necessary labor, supervision, equipment, materials, and specialized expertise required for planting street trees and other trees on Borough-owned properties, primarily within public rights-of-way in Hawthorne. The scope of work specifically involves the planting of 115 trees with a caliper of 2-3 inches for most species and 7-8 feet for Green Giant Arborvitae. The diverse species list includes Willow Oak, Red Maple, Sawtooth Oak, Japanese Tree Lilac, Sugar Maple, Amur Maple, Hedge Maple, Hophornbeam, and Green Giant Arborvitae. The Borough reserves the right to adjust the total quantity of trees by up to 25%. Key aspects of the work include strict adherence to ANSI planting standards, proper soil amendment and mulching, installation of root guards, immediate post-planting watering, and careful handling of all plant material to prevent damage. Specific planting locations and species assignments will be provided to the awarded contractor following contract execution. Contractors interested in this opportunity must demonstrate significant expertise, with the majority of their annual income derived from arboricultural or landscape work, and employ highly trained and skilled personnel in all phases of tree planting. Mandatory documentation includes a Statement of Responsibility, detailing previous similar projects, owned equipment, business references, and bank references, as well as a Certificate of Bidder Showing Ability to Perform Contract. Bidders not chartered in New Jersey must provide a certificate from the Secretary of State authorizing them to conduct business in the state, along with a New Jersey Business Registration Certificate (N.J.S.A. 52:32-44). All contractors are required to comply with Affirmative Action requirements as per N.J.S.A. 10:5-31 et seq. and NJAC 17:27. The project timeline stipulates work to commence on or about November 4, 2026, weather permitting, and be completed within 15 working days, but no later than November 30, 2026. The Consent of Surety Form and Proposal Guarantee (Bid Security), as well as a Performance Bond, are explicitly waived for this bid. Sealed bid proposals, clearly endorsed with "Tree Planting Services – Fall 2026" and the bidder's name, must be received by the Borough of Hawthorne no later than September 15, 2026, at 11:00 AM prevailing time.
