Morris Plains Trails
Eagle Project Completed by: Joshua Wolff
Morris Plains is a small, beautiful, and
scenic community. There are many
parks, open spaces, and trails for
residents to enjoy. This map shows
all of the current and proposed trails
in Morris Plains. Many of these trails
are ideal for walking and bike riding.
Trail Key
Green - 9/11 Memorial Trail
Teal - Court Road Trail
White - Train Station Trail
Pink - Park Road Trail
Red - Community Park Trail
Blue - Briarcliff Trail
Yellow - Proposed trails
Park Road Trail - This short
trail connects Forest Drive and
Park Road. It is dirt and is
located in a forest. There is
plenty of parking along Forest
Drive and Park Road.
Community Park Trail - This well kept trail is ⅔ of a
mile long and has a lot to see. The trail is completely
shaded, runs next to a pond with an island (there is a
bridge), passes by an old stone boat house, and has
picnic tables and benches at different points. It begins at
Community Park, located at 51 Jim Fear Drive and ends
at a point on Johnson Road.In the beginning, there is a
sidewalk but the path soon turns to dirt and mulch.
Parking is available at Community Park.
American Road Trail - This 0.4 mile trail is half shady and half
sunny, is well maintained, half paved and half dirt. There is a
picnic table, a gazebo, garbage cans, and multiple benches
along the path. The trail begins near the intersection of Littleton
and Court Road and ends in the American Road Office park
near COTY Inc. Parking is available along Court Road.
Briarcliff Trail - This half mile
trail is hilly, sunny, very wide,
made of loose gravel, and runs
next to power lines. Although
this trail isn’t wheelchair
friendly, it’s a great trail for
mountain biking! It begins at
the end of Briarcliff Road and
ends on Tabor Road (Route
53) next to the exit of the Morris
Plains Recycling Center. It also
has a short path that connects it to Davis Ave. Parking
is
only available on Briarcliff road. The Briarcliff Trail also
connects to Davis Avenue, off Route 10 East.
Train Station Trail - This 0.3 mile trail is mostly
shady and is a combination of pavement and dirt
(in the near future the entire trail will be paved). It
is a fairly wide trail and has a couple of benches
along the way. The trail begins at the Morris
Plains Train Station near the westbound side of
the track and ends at the future development site
of townhomes on American Road. Parking is
available on nearby Court Road or at the train
station, for a small fee.
Powerlines Trail - This proposed trail begins on Route 202 near
the entrance to the Kohl’s shopping plaza. When complete, it will
meet up with the Briarcliff trail and end on Tabor Road (Route 53)
near the Morris Plains Recycling Center. There is no convenient
parking on either side, so parking will have to be at the plaza.
9/11 Memorial Trail - This 1.25 mile long asphalt trail runs along busy
Route 53. It is handicap and stroller friendly. The trail passes by the
VFW and Morris Plains 9/11 Memorial, which has many benches and
garbage cans. Parking for this trail can be found at the 9/11 Memorial or
nearby baseball field, which is located between the VFW and 9/11
memorial. The trail begins at the intersection of Littleton and Tabor
Road (Route 53) in Morris Plains, and ends at the intersection of
Honeywell and Tabor Road. Planning is underway to extend the trail all
the way to the Morris Plains Recycling Center. The current trail is
marked in red and the proposed in
marked in yellow.
