Hazardous Waste should be disposed of at the County’s Collection days held in Cedar Grove in May and October
every year.
We collect plastic numbers 1, 2 & 5 as well as all glass and aluminum. Please do
not put items out in plastic bags. Use a rigid, reusable container of your choice.
CONSTRUCTION
DEBRIS
This includes chip-board, junk mail, magazines, and newspapers. Break
cardboard down as much as possible. Dry paper/cardboard should be put out in
a rigid, reusable container. (Please do not use plastic bags) Shredded paper
should be thrown out with the trash.
Not to exceed one 32-gallon container OR one black contractor bag per pickup.
No concrete, rocks, bricks, or pavers are permitted. All materials resulting from
contractors work must be disposed of by the contractor. This includes but is
not limited to wood, sheetrock, and flooring. You must arrange for a dumpster
for excessive amounts of material

OCTOBER 1 through DECEMBER 31, leaves must be placed at the curb in
compostable paper bags on your first collection day of each week.
Grass clippings may be disposed of in plastic bags with regular trash at all times
of the year. DO NOT include grass in paper bags with leaves.
Branches must be under 6 in. in diameter and 4 ft. in length, and bundled for
pick up. If larger, please call DPW to arrange a pickup. 973-226-2300 Ext 3400

By law, these must be recycled. The Essex County Utilities Authority holds
electronic collection events in May and October. These items may not be put at
the curb and will be left by the hauler

Latex (water-based) paint should be dried out and disposed of with trash.
Alkaline batteries (AAA,AA, C, D, &9V) may be disposed of in the regular trash.
BULK PICKUP
LEAVES, GRASS
& BRANCHES
Furniture, appliances (doors removed), mattresses, carpeting rolled and tied into
bundles 4 ft or less. these items are collected by the hauler twice per week on
the same day as your regular garbage, a different truck later in the day. no need
to schedule the pickup. tires and car parts are collected by DPW and an
